Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner
October 31, 2006 | | TrackBacks

I’ve tried Scrubbing Bubbles products in the past and, quite frankly, wasn’t all that impressed.  I hate mold and like the idea of automatic, though, so I was willing to give it a try.  The other product I tried I sprayed into the shower myself and it was a little noxious.  This doesn’t clean like a bunch of housekeepers scrubbing your shower every day – but who really thought it would?  It does, however, keep the mold and mildew at bay between scrubbings, and the stubborn soap scum actually does gradually start to go away.  As a plus it smells fresh and clean.  Then it broke.  I thought the battery contacts needed cleaning since the batteries I took out were sticky from the cleaning solution, but no. Even cleaned up with new batteries the thing still gives me the 15-beep warning but the motor never starts, so I think its toast.  That’s $25.00 for the unit and about one refill per month (first two are included in the starter kit) at ~ $5.00.  That’s maybe $45.00 for 6 months of cleaning the shower.  In the interest of science I’ll try another one on the chance I got a lemon, so look for updates here...UPDATE 2/18/2007. New purchase and two battery changes later and it's still going strong.

Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition Personal Photo Lab Printer
October 30, 2006 | | TrackBacks

This weekend I had the opportunity to test out this printer in preparation for an event where many pictures were going to be printed in on-the-spot, quick, polariod type fashion.  I was really impressed with the quality of the photo.  In fact, I would have chosen it over pictures I have gotten printed from snapfish.com in the past.  It took 75 seconds to print one picture, just like it advertised which is only 10 seconds longer than the competitor printer is supposed to.  It comes with options to edit the picture before printing and optional borders can be added.  The only downside I saw was a picture can only be cropped down to 1/3 the picture size and in situations like ours when you don't have the luxury to edit them on a computer, it would be nice to crop it to any size you want.  I'm not sure if it solves the ultimate digital printing dilemma--is it cheaper to print at home or in a lab. It would take awhile to get over the $150 initial investment and $29 ink cartridge/paper combo pack every 100 pictures.  But if you are planning to print several hundreds or even thousands of pictures during it's lifetime, I'm guessing the cost would work itself out and the quality definitely meets or exceeds any lab printing I've seen.

Celebrity Endorsements Gone Bad!
October 27, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Matina Hingis
Italian sneaker and tennis gear maker, Sergio Tacchnini, had provided then #1 ranked Martina a 5-year $5.6 million sponsorship, and required her to wear the shoes and clothes during all tournaments. Well, few years later Martina filed a lawsuit against the company stating that its shoes were defective, unsuitable for tournament play and caused her devastating injuries from wearing Tacchini shoes.

Cybill Shepherd
The Beef Industry Council enlisted Cybill to expound on her beef cravings for the "Real food for real people" campaign, but the whole thing backfired when Cybill admitted that she didn't eat meat.

OJ Simpson
Don't really need to say anything about OJ's double homicide charges causing Hertz to drop him.

Mariah Carey
Apparently Mariah's performance on the Pepsi commercial has jumped over and landed itself on awfulcommercials.com .. yes pun intended.. its the commercial where she's on a motorbike and jumps the pepsi sign.. as of late there seems to be quite a few people who could care less if a celebrity was peddling some product.

Nikon DSLR Remote Contols
October 26, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Remote control for a Nikon D70s DSLR. I didn't realize how sensitive camera's are to everything. Utilize a tripod whenever possible.. and a remote control actuator to get you as close to a perfectly still shot as possible (especially for Macro). I did ponder over whether to get the corded remote (MC-DC1 $23) or the wireless version (ML-L3 $16).. I got both. Both have their downsides.. the wireless receiver on the camera is located on the front, so you've got to be either in the picture of the shot or at an awkward angle above it.. naturally the corded con is that the bloody wire could cause you to trip or flip the camera. Having an SLR camera, its impossible to ask someone else to take my picture, so this is a great solution. As y'all will notice.. my picture on this thing has now been updated without a camera infront of my face.

Columbia Solitude SoftShell
October 25, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Needing a few new items for the upcoming winter weather, I picked up a Columbia Soft Shell jacket.  With a slick outer shell and warm inner lining, the soft shell provides warmth and style.  Made of 100% polyester, it’s easy to clean and maintain.  It also comes with zip down outer pockets and two inside pockets.  With the help of a few friends I was able to get this jacket at half price, which is a steal since it is reasonably priced at $89.99 from Dick’s Sporting Goods.  I recommend stopping by and trying it on, I liked it so much I bought two!!

Starbuck's Maple Macchiato
October 24, 2006 | | TrackBacks

I love me some Starbuck's. I usually stick to frappuccinos, lattes and even chai teas but I tried the Maple Macchiato this past weekend. The maple syrup they pour on top is just heavenly but after that it's a bit disappointing. I like my coffee sweet and I figured the coffee paired with maple syrup would do the trick but I was quite mistaken. If you like straight up coffee, it might be great for you but for those of us with an extreme sweet tooth, spend your $4 on another Starbuck's treat.

ODWALLA Beverages (Now owned by Coca-Cola)
October 23, 2006 | | TrackBacks

These smoothies are good. One of my favorites is SuperFood. It's green and ugly and delicious.  I also love the Super Protein drinks.  The protein drinks are a bit gritty, but they still feel good going down – the original is my personal favorite.  I love walking into the store and choosing the drink by how I feel.  Need energy?  SuperFood or Super Protein.  Feel a cold coming on?  Citrus C-Monster.  Then there are mango, blueberry, pomegranate and other super ingredients to get you up to par on whatever you might be lacking.  For something simply refreshing but good for you, too?  Try the classic Strawberry Banana Fruit Smoothie Blend. Other beverage lines have a similar variety and are also nutritious, but I find I like the consistency better in the Odwalla drinks, and the price is better than most of the other brands.  I got lucky and paid $1.25 for my 15.2 oz. Super Protein Odwalla today, but normally they run about $3.00 a bottle. So worth it!

James Bond - Tomorrow Never Dies
James Bond's Ericsson phone. From Tomorrow Never Dies, although sadly without the lock-picking / fingerprint-scanning / enemy-spiking features that Bond could use. Shame.

Scrubs
This was an auction for a walk-on role in the funny show of Scrubs. Proceeds go towards National Multiple Sclerosis Society. So do a good enough of a job and you might get to see yerself for a blip of a second and show off about it.

Viva Rock Vegas: Flintstones
It's the prop car from the Flintstones movie. Apparently its not carved out of wood but foam and it actually does have an engine (electric motor) and brakes in it.. No need to stick yer feet out to brake apparently.

Battle of the Gods
Apparently the entertainment industry thinks theres big bucks in casting civilians into their projects.. Above we saw the one for scrubs.. now the game producers of Battle of the Gods are willing to animate a person in their video game. Dont expect to be on any 'list' just cause yer likeliness is on some game.

Big Love
October 19, 2006 | | TrackBacks

3 wives.. first one (Jeanne Tripplehorn) is dominant/motherly, second (Chloƫ Sevigny) has an ego-centric attitude and the third (Ginnifer Goodwin) has regrets about everything.. all married to one husband (Bill Paxton) a polygnist protagonist. Imagine the stories/plots they could create with this chemistry! Now add in the seven kids and the fact that their faith is 'United Effort Brotherhoood' (a fundamentalist splinter group of LDS). They all suck in keeping secrets which makes it sometimes funny. Really entertaining series, a lot of well developed characters and Roman Grant is the root of all evil (he's the prophet of their church). Big Love has announced that they're doing a second season so catch up on how to kill someone by lacing their iced-tea with anti-freeze coolant by buying the 1st season on dvd

LAY'S Hot'n Spicy KC Masterpiece BBQ Flavored Potato Chips
October 18, 2006 | | TrackBacks

*slurping a drink* hot and spicy.. more spicy than hot.. wait wait.. damn the heat!!! The dark-red devil colored bag is a tell-tale sign to the serious heat it's packing. Its a good treat.. the heat and spice factor does limit how much you eat therefore it lasts longer.. you dont end up feeling sick by having destroyed the entire bag of chips at a sitting.. not that I've done that. So i just did a nutrition comparison of the Baked Lays KC Masterpiece BBQ against my devil-friendly regular Hot 'n Spicy KC Masterpiece BBQ.. and found a difference of just 30 calories per serving.. Baked aint worth it.

Chef! - The Complete Series One
October 17, 2006 | | TrackBacks

"Everton, let me explain things to you. In the world of cooking, I am Einstein, Lucinda is Isaac Newton, and you are a mud-dwelling unicellular bit of jelly with a predilection for consuming its own excrement." Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! A few years ago while dining at a hotel, I was fortunate to be within earshot of an interview in progress. It started off nice enough with the usual small talk, and then within minutes I and a few others were experiencing one of the most intense interview sessions I know I've ever heard, and hope never to be a part of in the future. Cooking is a serious business and the opening theme for Chef lets you know that it is indeed a 'Serious Profession'. After watching season one of this fantastic show I can appreciate the interview a lot more, and understand that chefs look at their efforts more than just a meal, but more as a work of art. The casting is great, and the writing is top-notch. A total joy and a must have in any comedy collection. Available for about under $20 at Amazon.com

Crest Maximum Strength Sensitivity Protection Whitening Plus Scope Toothpaste
October 16, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Some products I'm completely loyal to (see my last post) and then there are others that I welcome new variations of. Toothpaste is one of those.  I have yet to go get the Zoom whitening done so I'll take all the help I can get and usually that is in the form of whitening toothpaste.  Unfortunately I have sensitive teeth and used for too long, my poor teeth can't handle regular whitening toothpaste.  I believe I found the right toothpaste for me...Crest Maximum Strength Sensitivity Protection Whitening Plus Scope.  Wow that's a mouthful, but the name pretty much says it all.  Since using it, I'm not sure how white my teeth have gotten, but I haven't noticed any sensitivity issues I normally do with regular whitening toothpaste.  It's a little on the expensive side for toothpaste at $4.50 a tube but I'll call it a Fair Deal.

Subliminal Advertising / Product Placement
October 13, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Nip/Tuck:
Francis Francis! X1 espresso machine - Lil' espresso machine in their break room. Lamborghini of the barista machines apparently.. fitting since Dr Christian Troy drives just that.

Monk
We know of Adrian and his OCD ways but what we've probably all missed is that he specifically used Lever 2000 antibacterial hand Wipes during the first couple of seasons and the Clorox version as of late. There was a scene where he was packing to Mexico and had a suitcase full of them!

Dog The Bounty Hunter
So we know he's always over-doing/acting/whatever it is he does.. but manages to catch the bad guy/gal at the end.. little did we realize that he does it all while wearing Oakley's Thump built-in mp3 sunglasses.. I'll have to find out what his mp3 collection is like.

Law & Order
The rumor is there's a Fedex truck in the background of the Manhattan scenes in nearly every episode. I wonder what kind of check Fedex had to write for a subliminal contract.

Gillette M3 Fusion Power Razor
October 11, 2006 | | TrackBacks

I saw the World Cup logo and the word 'power' on the M3 razor and decided to buy it ($15).. yeah marketing works on me.. Fortunately it came with a battery but no additional blades.. thats fine.. i understand marketing and getting the most out of a customer by having them buy replacements .. but hey now I can say that David Beckham and I shave the same way.. again.. marketing works. I'm honestly not sure if this gets me a better closer shave.. I never had any complaints when i used the non-powered version.. so Im not sure why I bought this.. oh.. i forgot.. the marketing.

V8 V.Fusion - Peach Mango
October 9, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Flavor #2 conquered.. and I'm disappointed.. for those who remember I had tried the strawberry-banana version of the V8.Fusion line. I've now had the Peach-Mango version and I'm not happy. I'm a huge mango fan.. the sweet wonderful months of March thru May.. yah exactly..i know their prime seasons, thats how big of a fan i am. Why do companies pair the bloody peach with mangoes constantly?! Dole, Cytoscope Muscle Milk, Nature's Best, and even Luzianne Tea are to blame for this psycho pairing.. so someone needs to let them know it's not working! Ugh.. It's 'drink-able' but definitely not one I would savor by sipping chilled while watching Nip/Tuck. Infact, I'm not buying this flavor again. The only flavor left in the v.Fusion catalog is their orange juice. I'm tellin you heads up.. I like my oj's with no pulp and with low-levels of acid.. yeh I'm picky.. but we know this.

3 sided Televsion

Ever had a situation where three people wanted to watch three different things at the same time and just had to have a tv that could do that? well.. you need to do the normal thing and tell them to decide on one thing to watch.. and not spend $50k.

Geeky bling
Granted it is functional.. it's a USB flash-drive.. but Ive never equated geek technology with luxury.. I'm sure the google creators each have one with their names engraved.

Milk from Amazon.com
What!? Milk is only good for so many days.. to have it spend precious time in transit to your house in a delivery vehicle.. I'm not sure if they pack it with dry-ice like some online meat retailers but you have to be pretty bold to want this via online.

Diamond Lashes
Originally designed for Madonna.. .75 carats of diamonds laced onto the lashes.. the creator has now made a limited set of 7 pairs exclusively for Neiman Marcus customers at $10 grand each. Are you winking at me or do you have a diamond in your eye?

Turtles Can Fly
October 5, 2006 | | TrackBacks

Turtles Can FlyBeing the first movie, available at Amazon for $26, out of post invasion Iraq with the main focus rested on the Kurds, Ghobadi had his hands full making this movie. So what do I think of it? Knowing the history of the region was quite helpful, and knowing how sad life can be for those who dwell there is definately not a good combination for a fun movie. The movie is sad by any standard, eye opening to the ignorant and simply a great piece for those who know little of what life can be like for the Kurds. The movie had an effect on me, had I been much older, and in the same situation as i am now, I would have simply broken down, traveled to Iraq and adopted a Kurdish orphan. Its a great movie for those of us who know what goes on in that region and yet not so great for those of us who live in a bubble.

Alterna Enzymetherapy Hemp Thickening Compound
October 3, 2006 | | TrackBacks

thickener I have been faithful to the Bed Head hair products line for 5 years now.  I went out on a limb this week and got my hair cut by someone new.  And new salon means new hair products.  I was out of my Bed Head thickener and requested a replacement from the new stylist.  I was given Alterna Enzymetherapy Hemp Thickening Compound for $18.60.  I was really disappointed.  It may have made each strand of my hair thicker (although I'm not convinced it did), but it provided absolutely no body to my otherwise fine hair to give it any kind of stylizing ability.  I'm going to stick with my trusted thickener, Bed Head's Small Talk which lives up to its promise to be a thickifier, energizer and stylizer for $15.95.

V8 V.Fusion Strawberry Banana
October 2, 2006 | | TrackBacks

So the new V8 V.Fusion drinks show up, and I'm thinkin these look mighty like the protein/energy drinks that have been flooding the market.. apparently V8 are joinin the trend looks-wise bUT luckily taste-wise they've stayed true to their guns. I've only tried the strawberry-banana and the drink itself has a thicker consistency (prob the banana to blame? i dunno) so be warned, and it has a very strong sense of a health kick to it.. prob why it touts proudly that one serving contains a day's worth of veggies n fruits! The new V-Fusion line does have other flavors and I expect to try em all out.. so come back for their reviews soon. Don't get me wrong, I love the standard spicy V8 but thats not something my lil girl would ever drink, so this is a great family-friendly drink.
