"So you're not coming. It was all....a joke." How do you heal? How do you mend a broken heart when you find out that the only person you’ve ever fallen in love with, belongs to someone else? Watching Reaching for the Moon was very touching and thoroughly enjoyable. Many of us know who Douglas Fairbanks is, but for those who don’t well let’s just say that if he were to be planted in space, he would light up the skies brighter than most stars. Very charismatic, and with a very contagious laugh, it was a lot of fun watching him go through the various stages of gaining the affections of the lovely Bebe Daniels. The setting of the story on an ocean liner was perfect and really added to the romantic atmosphere, and with the beautiful musical score playing from time to time, you couldn’t help but be seduced. This DVD version runs at just a few minutes over the hour mark and could be considered a shortie compared to today's standards, but that just gives it a repeat value for me. However, the quality of DVDs from Passport have always been a mystery. While they have produced great quality releases on many of the classics, they really missed the boat on this one. The less than expected quality and movie logo won’t deter die-hard fans from enjoying this gem from the past, but for those who expect nothing but the best, look for it on any of the classic movie channels.
