Enrique Iglesias - Insomniac
June 25, 2007 | | TrackBacks

I've been a fan of Enrique for at least six years that I can recall. And it's been about that long since he's come out with a new CD. I preordered mine weeks before it was even released a few weeks ago. I've got a mixed review on this one.

Some observations I have about the CD: He's got several Spanish and mix tracks on there (I have the iTunes version). I skip those and I kind of wish they weren't on the CD . Although I do have to say I actually like the Spanish versions better. His voice suits it well but you know, the whole I don't know Spanish thing kind of gets in the way.

Most of the songs are ballads, classic Enrique material. However, there's so many in the middle of the CD they sort of just become forgettable and I usually skip songs like Sweet Isabel and Little Girl.
He's got some heavy pop and hip hop influences on the CD which I think is great. In the past, I think he's had a hard time coming into mainstream American radio. His sound is really unique and it never has seemed to fit anywhere.

The lyrics of a couple of the songs are VERY suggestive, even downright explicit in some cases. I kind of cringe at those. On the flip side, a lot of the songs are very sweet and romantic.
Fans of Enrique will enjoy songs like Miss You and Don't Forget About Me. The latin genre influence is clear and old fans will liken it to his older music.

Several of the songs have potential to be BIG radio hits despite or in some cases because of the lyrics. I imagine Do You Know, Push, On Top of You, Tired of Being Sorry and Somebody's Me will all do well.
I'm guessing unless you are an established fan of Enrique, there's no need to buy the whole CD. However, songs like Somebody's Me is worth checking out by just about anyone.
