General Mills Honey Nut Clusters
June 28, 2007 | | TrackBacks

Apparently everyone at WeCalledIt.com believes breakfast is the most important meal of the day, considering that this will be the sixth cereal review and I know there are a few more coming. But the other day I was looking for a break from the normal and I decided to try General Mills Honey Nut Clusters. I figured I like honey, almonds, and walnuts so it has to be good right. Well, kind of. The initial tastes are all there, and if you eat like you are in a competition you will love it. But I consume cereal at a much slower pace since I am usually trying to get ready for work, making lunch, and making sure I'm not leaving the water running anywhere. That gives time for the cereal to get a bit soggy, which I am not a fan of. The wheat and rice flakes seemed to soak in the milk so quick, that if I put my spoon down, I might as well pour the rest out. Now the clusters of almonds and walnuts were still crunchy and tasty, but the flakes were .. ummmm.flakey. I think if the flakes were a bit thicker, this could come close to being in my normal cereal rotation, but until then I'll keep looking. I can't really call this a miss because it is good if you hurry, so I settle for a Fair Deal.

Fruity Cheerios
June 1, 2007 | | TrackBacks

Cheerios are sort of staple at my house and not always seen in a bowl of cereal. They could be seen in a car seat, under the couch sofas, in toy kitchen bowls, well, you get the idea. Hence, Fruity Cheerios didn't seem too appetizing to me to be honest. The whole Cheerios thing I thought was ruined for me. And plus, they looked like a bad version of the classic Fruit Loops. I have to say though I was pleasantly surprised. They have a great fruity taste, very similar to Fruit Loops and yes, less sugar but somehow it tasted light and airy and still sweet enough. And from what I can tell, the nutrition values are much better. My kids think they're great because of the colors. I think these will definitely be a new staple in our pantry...and couch...and carpet...and van...but hey, at least they'll be easier to find with the bright colors.

Nature Valley Cereal - Cinnamon

I might have mentioned I love the Nature Valley Salty Sweet Almond Granola Bars. What I didn’t mention is that I also love the regular Nature Valley Granola Bars. -- the crunchy variety, not the chewy ones. But when I saw the commercials for Nature Valley cereal it just didn’t sound enticing. Crumble up my beloved granola bar into a bowl and pour milk over it? Forget it! But then I tried this cereal – both the Oats ‘N Honey and the Cinnamon. I’m trying to eat healthy but don’t like the normal tasteless paperweight Kashi-type cereals. Fortunately I’ve always loved cereals like All-Bran, Grape-Nuts, Life, and Honey Nut Cheerios. This Nature Valley cereal, the Cinnamon, now makes my list. The flakes have a nice touch of cinnamon and sweetness – no sugar needed. And those little granola bar pieces? Okay, at first they kind of looked like little pieces of pressed cardboard…but they were actually little goldmines of flavor! YUM! The Oats ‘N Honey was good, but too sweet to eat a whole bowl. Our lovely Amy is a sugary cereal lover, and she likes the Oats 'N Honey better, so I think we all can win with one of these. The cost is running at the higher end of the cereal cost range, as it tends to do for ‘health-food’ cereals, of course.
